This is an old revision of the document!
ScottFlix
Jellyfin is a 'Netflix' like experience where you provide the movies yourself. I remember clearly watching Futurama on a streaming service only to have it be removed part way through my binge. I was already frustrated with the state of 'owning' media and this was the final push for me to move into hosting media exclusively.
I have been running and expanding my own (legal) collection of movies for several years now and have completely stopped all subscription services! Unfortunately this does not save me money as I must now buy BluRays/DVSs to rip but I do own my media and can not have it taken from me.
Jellyfin is a community project and, while I'm sure they do their best, security is on a best-effort basis, with that in mind I do not expose JellyFin to the public internet. It is accessible remotely via VPN.
I run Jellyfin as a container inside of an LXC container on Compute-Hi, while this appears convoluted but for high resolution video playback, especially for multiple streams, you will want hardware acceleration. I have an Intel ARC A310 GPU inside of the Compute-Hi server that I pass through to the LXC container, by passing to an LXC and not to a VM I am able to share this GPU to the NVR and to Scottflix allowing for hardware acceleration on both services.
